Nunhead is one of London’s unique 'urban villages', a great shopping experience that only independent retailing can provide as well as being a vibrant shopping area serving the local community.
The name is first recorded in 1680 and is believed to be taken from a local inn named The Nun's Head.

News from the Southwark Council website.
Cllr Peter John, Leader of Southwark Council, said: “Yesterday’s horrific events on Westminster Bridge and outside Parliament have shocked and saddened us all, but they have also reminded us of London’s strength and resilience. Through the horror shone incredible acts of bravery, compassion, dignity and kindness, and Londoners from all backgrounds and communities came together to condemn these evil acts."
Residents of one of south London’s newest housing schemes joined community leaders and some well-known names to celebrate a milestone last Friday (17 March).
Feedback from leaseholders in Southwark has told the council that the service it provides to homeowners, in its former state, was not fit for purpose. In 2014, after listening to what residents told the council they needed, Southwark Council pledged to establish an independent, bespoke service specifically for homeowners.
